Specialized Care Across the Lifespan

Stuttering & Cluttering
"Thinking Skills"
Speech & Language

Stuttering is complex and entails thoughts and feelings about communication and about

communication experiences. Understanding individual relevant factors allows for personalized and holistic care.

Cluttering involves speech that sounds rapid, unclear and/or disorganized to the listener.

The ultimate goal of therapy is free, natural, and confident communication that is in accord with personal values.

Cognitive & Executive functioning involves fundamental skills that may be compromised for various reasons, including having ADD or ADHD, receiving  chemotherapy ("chemo brain") or acquiring a brain injury, to name a few. Difficulties in this area can significantly affect academic or occupational performance, and quality of life. Therapy addresses individual real-life circumstances while building skill sets with age-appropriate, guided practice.

Speech: therapy addresses producing speech sounds and words.

Language: therapy addresses using words to understand or express ideas, thoughts, and feelings. This includes the

Social Aspects of communication.

Therapy addresses acquiring these abilities during development or regaining loss of these capacities due to stroke, disease, or other causes.

I care deeply about each of my clients. Therapy is collaborative and joyful, and takes place in an accepting environment at a personalized pace.

I am grateful to have been taught by some of the world’s best clinicians in their respective fields of expertise. My advanced clinical training was under the mentorship of a caring and seasoned specialist in stuttering, cluttering, and fluency. I earned my Ph.D. and both of my master’s degrees at Northwestern University where I studied aphasia and word retrieval difficulties, and earned Certification in Cognitive Neuroscience. My postdoctoral work addressed the cognitive difficulties associated with chemotherapy and was performed at the Think & Speak Lab at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, which is ranked the number one rehabilitation institute in the U.S. As Assistant Professor at Elmhurst University, I created a special track for the advanced study of stuttering for students training to become speech pathologists. I worked hard to impart core values of therapy including the centrality of the client-clinician relationship, the overarching goal of confidence in communication, and the importance of lifelong learning.

Importantly, my learning never stops. I am an active member of the American Psychological Association and a designated Ally of Stuttering SLP. Part of what makes me effective in helping others is that I myself continue to grow.
